Kathmandu: A team from the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, based in Lainchaur, has been deployed to Jajarkot to conduct a comprehensive investigation and research into the recent earthquake that struck the region on Friday night. The expert team is led by senior seismologist Dr. Lokvijaya Adhikari.

The Director General of the Department of Mines and Geology, Ram Prasad Ghimire, stated that the team's mission involves in-depth study and research on various aspects of the earthquake. These aspects include evaluating the earthquake's depth, the direction of the damage, and the structural damage caused by the seismic event.

Dr. Adhikari, a senior seismologist, clarified that the earthquake in Jajarkot was not an aftershock of the Bajhang earthquake but rather a distinct earthquake event. Following the initial earthquake that occurred on Friday night in Ramidanda, Jajarkot, four aftershocks were recorded. These aftershocks registered magnitudes of 4.5, 4.2, 4.3, and 4.2.

The recent earthquake has already resulted in 157 confirmed fatalities in the Jajarkot and Rukum Paschim regions, with more than 200 individuals suffering injuries. The earthquake was measured at a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, and its aftermath has left a significant impact on the affected areas.
